Prior to starting my own company, Kirei Concepts, I served for seven years as the Lead Graphic Design/Project Manager for Linn Nishikawa & Associates working in the non-profit sectors of economic development, small businesses, and education. I received my Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) focused in Graphic Design from the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa.
I was on a team that established the first-ever Made in Maui County Festival, our county's largest retail/products that was held at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center in 2014. It boasted over 130 vendors and over 9,400 visitors and residents. I established the event's branding, designed print and marketing materials, event planning, event photography and handled year-round vendor coordination.
The festival was created to stimulate our island’s economy by boosting sales and awareness of locally made products. It is a showcase of the hard work and creativity in our local community, and buyers from around the state and across the nation are getting word that this is the place to be if they want to see the best that Maui County has to offer.
I love emulating Japanese philosophy of "omoiyari" – the care, consideration, and empathy that leads to thoughtful action to improve the lives of others – a universal concept in human interaction that is essential for a sustainable society and bedrock to the social spirit of 'aloha' in the islands. Thus, my passion lies in being of service to others, especially small businesses, which I know are the lifeblood of our communities.
