With a background in journalism and a natural inclination towards social causes and community, I've noticed quickly how the humanitarian brands I adored often missed opportunities to truly be heard. With limited resources, time and funding, setting up a website to more easily advocate for social causes is often replaced with grassroots efforts that quite literally feel like planting seeds, and waiting for trees to grow. Sometimes, we don’t have years to create the impact the world needs. In response, I founded Studio Humankind with a focus on human-centered design, bringing beautiful stories and voices into the world with websites for nonprofit organizations and social enterprises.

What is your primary focus as an independent professional?
My creative work is focused on branding and website design for nonprofit organizations. I take an informative and researched approach to my work, prioritizing brand strategy before beginning any project. I think it’s important to have a vision and a mission, but more importantly, know who you’re speaking to and why. Especially in the charitable world, so many organizations get lost in asking for donations that they forget the way to achieve greater funding is first through storytelling and transparency. I am proud of the way I’ve blended my own brand with my outreach and communication to push my purpose forward. By previously working in the journalistic space, as well, I’ve also enjoyed editorial designs and layout presentations to grow organizations in their annual reports and advocate understanding.
What inspires you?
My family, boyfriend, traveling, warm tea, reading, and being by water makes me happy. I love telling stories and learning about different cultures in all of the work I do, as well as reading memoirs from the account of others and their own journey. I also aspire to travel the world and learn as much as I can from locals about what it means to be a part of their community. Ultimately, I find my peace near water, as it’s a place to refresh and find comfort in the life we’ve been given. I thank God every day for the blessings I’ve been given.
