What is your primary focus as an independent professional?

Graphic design is my primary focus, with voiceovers and production playing a significant role.

What makes you uniquely special?

My body of work sets me apart, specifically that I have worked with artists that are household names such as Lynyrd Skynyrd. In every aspect of my work, I collaborate with well-respected artists at the top of their game.

How do you keep the creative fires burning?

It depends on the project, but generally, I work with artists who inspire me. Listening to their songs helps to motivate my work.

Why do you love doing what you do?

I love the whole creative process, getting stuck into producing a piece of work, and doing what I do best. I also enjoy showing the finished product to the client and getting to see their reaction.

Have you always been independent? What has your career trajectory been?

Yes, in all aspects of my career, I have been independent. For instance, when I was a tour manager, I worked directly with artists such as Dee Snider and Brittany Fox. I have also worked for record companies, but always independently. My career has been diverse; I have worked in many areas of the music industry, as well as for charities.

How do you continue to grow your professional skills?

I think it is essential to keep up with new advances in the industry, so I always try new products when they come out. For example, if a 3D animation program is released, I use it and learn how it works. I also do a lot of reading and researching to keep up-to-date with the industry.

How have you benefited from mentors in your career?

I am a self-taught graphic designer, and I didn’t have any mentors in design. In 2001, I went to school for Graphic Communication but quickly discovered that I was as qualified and experienced as the teachers. I set myself a goal of being employed as a teacher there, and within five months, I was offered a full-time position.

Who are some of the clients you have worked with?

I have worked with a wide range of clients from non-profits to family-owned businesses, but most of my work has been in the music industry; radio stations, record companies, and artists. I have worked with big names including The Who, Jason Aldean, Kid Rock, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Breaking Benjamin, Disturbed, Twisted Sister, Foreigner, and Type O Negative.

What is the most significant (to you) project you have worked on?

One of the projects I enjoyed the most and was seen by lots of people was for Dee Snider’s band, Van Helsing’s Curse. The logo I designed was displayed on billboards all over Las Vegas, on slot machines and poker tables, and at the stadium during the fireworks display at Six Flags Great Adventure amusement park. It was a proud moment to see that.

What does the perfect job look like to you?

For me, the perfect job is when I am working with a client who knows what they want. I love to be given a clear brief and then the freedom to get creative and use my expertise to bring it to life.

What kinds of projects are you open to?

I have a diverse body of work, so I am open-minded about accepting different projects looking for my skills.
