The CannaJournalist

About me

After spending twenty, stress-filled years in corporate America, losing three family members in less than six years to cancer, and watching my husband struggle with chronic pain and opiate addiction… I had to make a change.

In early 2016, I made a conscious decision to alter the course of my life. I quit my job, gave up my salary and benefits, and headed out into the great unknown.

With a little “divine” intervention, I landed in Denver working in the legal cannabis industry. What I learned over the next several months, saved my life, saved my husband’s life, and saved our marriage.

Today, I am a freelance writer and Editorial Director for Cannabis Tech – a publication dedicated to the science and technology driving the cannabis and hemp industries.

While I am a consumer and advocate if I’ve learned anything through my role as a journalist, bias and blind loyalty serve no one.

Have you always been independent? What has your career trajectory been?

No, I started in the workforce at the age of 14 working for our local grocery store until I graduated high school mid-term and set out into the real world. From 1996 until 2015 I worked in a wide variety of corporate offices as a Mobile Technology specialist. Some of the companies I've worked for include:

  • Maytag Appliances
  • Wells Fargo Financial
  • Grinnell College
  • DuPont Pioneer
  • City of Eden Prairie, MN

Shortly after my mother passed in 2014, I decided that I wanted to do something else and that the windowless, dark, basement offices of corporate information technology just no longer suited me. When I quit my 20-year career, a friend asked what I planned to do next - I simply replied, "I don't know, but I've always wanted to be a writer."

Today, over seven years later, I am the editorial director for a publication and have several freelance clients I write for. What can I write for you?

How do you keep the creative fires burning?

I live in one of the most beautiful areas of Colorado, tucked-away, deep within the forested mountains of the Rocky Mountains. Inspiration is generally a 20 minute walk away.
